At the turn of the 20th century, Russian Tsar Alexander III began construction on the Trans-Siberian Railway. The railway is 5,772 miles long which is more than twice as long as the contiguous United States at 2,802 miles. The route connects Moscow in the west with the Japanese Sea in the east and spans eight time zones. The second half of a detailed two-year survey of the history of the United States, this course takes students from the westward movement of the late 1800s to the present.
