Distilled water is water in its purest form. The water that you get from your sink can have chemicals like chlorine that are safe to keep the water clean, or minerals found in the ground if you have well water. When using water in experiments though, those minerals or chemicals can affect the outcome of the experiment which is why distilled water is used.

Learn about the process of making distilled water with this interactive online lab. Be sure to click the Close Captions ‘CC’ button at the bottom of the page to read what is happening in the experiment.
